Plied yarns
Two-ply cotton yarns for weaving and knitting.
- Count
- Ne 8/2–60/2
- Finish
- Carded or combed
- Finest plied yarns
- Up to Nm 170/2

Product range
- Finer plied yarns, combed, e.g. Nm 135/2 or Nm 170/2, also on dyeing cones (special qualities)
- Coarse plied yarns, e.g. Ne 12/2 and Ne 12/3 carded
The resultant count is approximate. Ply twist shortens the yarn slightly, which makes the plied yarn marginally coarser.
| Unit | coarsest | finest |
|---|---|---|
| Ne | 8/2 | 60/2 |
| Nm (approx.) | 13.5/2 | 102/2 |
| Resultant (approx.) | Ne 4 · 148 tex | Ne 30 · 19.7 tex |
Why plied yarn
Plying twists two or more single yarns together. Irregularities in the individual ends partly even out.
- More even mass and higher strength than a single yarn of the same resultant count.
- Lower hairiness and a cleaner fabric appearance.
- Less tendency to snarl, as single and ply twist can be balanced.
- Typical uses: shirting and blouse fabrics, high-quality knitwear, warp yarns, technical and decorative articles.
